2011 AAAS Lifetime Mentor Award and Mentor Award

Opportunity Description: Both awards recognize an individual who has mentored and guided significant numbers of students from underrepresented groups to the completion of doctoral studies or who has impacted the climate of a department, college, or institution to significantly increase the diversity of students pursuing and completing doctoral studies.

Opportunity Description: PathwaysToScience.org is a portal website supporting pathways to the STEM fields: science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. Particular emphasis is placed on connecting traditionally underrepresented groups with STEM programs and resources, including funding and mentoring opportunities.

One Stop Shopping Initiative (OSSI) LaunchPad

Opportunity Description: The OSSI LaunchPad is an Agency-wide strategic communication tool designed to reach Education stakeholders, including students, faculty, mentors, project managers, and industry partners. National Lab Day
Audience: Undergraduate and graduate students, STEM professionals
Opportunity Description: It's a nationwide initiative to build local communities of support that will foster ongoing collaborations among volunteers, students and educators. Volunteers, university students, scientists, engineers, other STEM professionals and, more broadly, members of the community are working together with educators and students to bring discovery-based science experiences to students in grades K-12. When an educator posts a project, our system will help them get the resources needed to bring that project to fruition.

DataBase Mentoring (DB Me) Workshop at SIGMOD 2010 – June 11, 2010

National Science Foundation Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU)
Audience: Undergraduate students. Typically, students must be U.S. Citizens or permanent residents.
Opportunity Description: The NSF supports about 65 colleges and universities to offer summer research experiences for undergraduate computing majors. Most sites offer 8-10 week full-time jobs in a research lab.

US Dept of Energy Office of Science Graduate Fellowship Program

Opportunity Description:The DOE Office of Science Graduate Fellowship (DOE SCGF) program will provide support for outstanding students to pursue graduate training in basic research in areas of physics, biology, chemistry, mathematics, engineering, computational sciences, and environmental sciences relevant to the Office of Science and to encourage the development of the next generation scientific and technical talent in the U.S. Fellows will receive a $35,000 yearly stipend for living expenses, $10, 500 per year for tuition and fees and a $5,000 research stipend supplement for research materials and travel expenses. Fellows will be required to participate in the annual DOE SCGF Research Conference to be held each summer at a DOE national laboratory. Travel expenses and accommodations to the Conference will be provided by the DOE SCGF program.
